Nizoder 2% Cream is a broad-spectrum antifungal cream containing ketoconazole. It treats common fungal and yeast infections of the skin, relieving itching, redness, scaling, and irritation while clearing the underlying infection. The 30 g tube is a good fit for larger affected areas or longer treatment courses.
Uses / Indications
Nizoder 2% Cream is used to treat:
- Ringworm of the body (tinea corporis)
- Jock itch (tinea cruris), a fungal infection of the groin
- Athlete’s foot (tinea pedis)
- Fungal infection of the hands (tinea manus)
- Pityriasis versicolor (tinea versicolor), which causes light or dark patches on the skin
- Cutaneous candidiasis, a yeast infection of the skin
- Seborrheic dermatitis, which causes red, flaky, itchy patches on the face, scalp edges, and chest
How It Works
Ketoconazole belongs to the imidazole group of antifungals. It blocks the fungus from producing ergosterol, an essential part of its cell membrane. Without ergosterol, the fungal cell membrane becomes damaged and the fungus stops growing, which allows the skin to heal.
Dosage & Directions for Use
- Wash the affected area and dry it thoroughly.
- Apply a thin layer of cream to the affected skin and a little of the surrounding area.
- Rub it in gently until absorbed.
- Wash your hands after use, unless the hands are being treated.
Usual dose: Apply once or twice daily, or as directed by your doctor.
Typical treatment duration:
- Ringworm and jock itch: 2–4 weeks
- Athlete’s foot: 4–6 weeks
- Pityriasis versicolor: 2–3 weeks
- Cutaneous candidiasis: 2–3 weeks
- Seborrheic dermatitis: 2–4 weeks
Continue treatment for a few days after symptoms disappear to prevent the infection from returning. If there is no improvement after 4 weeks, consult a doctor.
Side Effects
Most people use Nizoder 2% Cream without problems. Possible side effects include:
- Burning or stinging where the cream is applied
- Itching, redness, or irritation
- Dry or peeling skin
Rarely, allergic reactions such as rash, swelling, or blistering may occur. Stop using the cream and consult a doctor if this happens.
Contraindications
Do not use if you are allergic to ketoconazole or any ingredient in the cream.
Precautions & Warnings
- For external use only. Do not swallow.
- Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, and inside of the nose. If it gets in the eyes, rinse well with water.
- If you have been using a steroid cream on the same area, do not stop it suddenly. Your doctor may advise reducing it gradually over 2–3 weeks while starting Nizoder, to avoid a flare-up.
- Do not cover the treated area with tight or airtight bandages unless your doctor tells you to.
- Keep the affected area clean and dry, and avoid sharing towels, clothes, or footwear to prevent spreading the infection.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Very little ketoconazole is absorbed into the body when applied to the skin. Pregnant or breastfeeding women should still consult a doctor before use. When breastfeeding, do not apply it to the breast area.
Use in Children
Limited data are available for children. Use only on a doctor’s advice.
Drug Interactions
No significant interactions are known with topical use. Tell your doctor if you are using any other skin medicines on the same area.

- Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place.
- Protect from light and moisture.
- Close the cap tightly after use.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
