Unix-C Lotion is a scabicidal and antipruritic lotion. It combines two active ingredients: permethrin, which kills scabies mites and their eggs, and crotamiton, which also kills mites and gives soothing relief from itching. With these two actions together, Unix-C treats the infection and relieves the intense itching that comes with it.
Uses / Indications
Unix-C Lotion is used to treat:
- Scabies, a contagious skin infestation caused by the mite Sarcoptes scabiei
- Itching (pruritus) associated with scabies
How It Works
Permethrin 5% is a synthetic pyrethroid. It affects the nerve cells of mites, causing paralysis and death of the mites and their eggs.
Crotamiton 10% has scabicidal activity and relieves itching, giving a soothing, cooling effect on irritated skin.
Dosage & Directions for Use
- Take a bath or shower, then dry your skin completely and let it cool.
- Shake the bottle well.
- Apply the lotion thinly and evenly to the whole body from the neck down to the soles of the feet. Pay special attention to areas between fingers and toes, wrists, elbows, armpits, waist, groin, buttocks, and under the nails.
- Leave the lotion on for 8–14 hours, for example overnight.
- Wash it off thoroughly with a bath or shower.
- If your doctor advises, repeat the treatment after 7 days.
Note: For infants, young children, and elderly patients, a doctor may advise applying to the scalp, face, and neck as well, avoiding the eyes and mouth.
Important Tips for Successful Treatment
- Treat all family members and close contacts at the same time, even if they have no symptoms.
- Wash clothes, towels, and bedsheets used in the past 3 days in hot water and dry them in the sun or a hot dryer.
- Seal items that can’t be washed in a plastic bag for at least 3 days.
- Trim fingernails, since mites can hide under them.
- Itching may continue for 2–4 weeks after successful treatment. This is normal and doesn’t mean the treatment has failed. Consult a doctor if itching persists beyond 4 weeks or new burrows appear.
Side Effects
Possible side effects include:
- Mild burning, stinging, or tingling after application
- Itching, redness, or skin irritation
- Dry skin or rash
These are usually mild and temporary. Stop use and seek medical advice if a serious allergic reaction occurs, such as swelling, severe rash, or difficulty breathing.
Contraindications
Do not use if you are allergic to permethrin, crotamiton, other pyrethroids or pyrethrins, chrysanthemums, or any ingredient of the lotion.
Precautions & Warnings
- For external use only. Do not swallow.
- Avoid contact with the eyes, mouth, nostrils, and inside of the ears. If it gets in the eyes, rinse immediately with plenty of water.
- Do not apply to broken skin, open wounds, or acutely inflamed or weeping skin.
- Do not use more than the recommended amount or more often than advised.
Pregnancy & Breastfeeding
Consult a doctor before use if you are pregnant or breastfeeding. When breastfeeding, do not apply it to the breast area.
Use in Children
Children under 12 years should use Unix-C only under a doctor’s supervision.
Drug Interactions
No significant interactions are known with topical use. Tell your doctor about any other skin products or medicines you are using.

- Store below 30°C in a cool, dry place.
- Protect from light.
- Keep the bottle tightly closed.
- Keep out of the reach of children.
