The inactivated polio vaccine (IPV) is a trivalent vaccine containing an aqueous suspension of poliovirus types 1, 2 and 3 (salk strains) grown in vero cell culture. The poliovirus obtained from the vero cell culture are concentrated, purified by various physicochemical methods and inactivated by formaldehyde. The final vaccine also contains formaldehyde as a stabilizer & 2-phenoxyethanol as an antimicrobial preservative and phenol red as pH indicator.
